Hollywood Actress Died Recently Biography

The shock death of Hollywood actress Brittany Murphy at 32 "appears to be natural", says the coroner's office.
Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter said Murphy apparently collapsed in the bathroom, and authorities were looking into her medical history.
An official cause of death may not be determined for some time, since toxicology tests will be required, but "it appears to be natural," Winter said. He said an autopsy was planned for Monday or Tuesday.

Murphy, known for her roles in films such as Clueless and 8 Mile, was pronounced dead at 10.04am local time at Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre, hospital spokeswoman Sally Stewart said.

She was taken to the hospital after the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a call at 8am at the home she shared with her husband, British screenwriter and director Simon Monjack, in the Hollywood Hills.

Monjack reportedly told hospital staff he did not want an autopsy performed on the actress. But the Los Angeles County Coroner was insisting one be performed, TMZ said.

The website also reported that Murphy's mother Sharon told paramedics her daughter had a history of diabetes.

Mr Winter said Murphy's family was cooperating with the coroner's investigation but would not be releasing a public statement. He said funeral arrangements have not been announced.
"In this time of sadness, the family thanks you for your love and support," Murphy's publicist, Nicole Perna, said in a statement. "It is their wish that you respect their privacy."

It was Murphy's mother who found her collapsed in her shower, celebrity gossip site TMZ reported.

She was found by paramedics in full cardiac arrest and could not be revived, TMZ said.

Police investigation

Neighbour Clare Staples said she saw firefighters working to resuscitate the actress. She said Murphy was on a stretcher and "looked as though she was dead at the scene".

Monjack, wearing pyjama bottoms and no shoes, appeared "dazed" as firefighters tried to save Murphy, Staples said. "It's just tragic," she added.

Murphy's father, Angelo Bertolotti, said he learned of her death from his son, the actress's brother, and was stunned.
"She was just an absolute doll since she was born," Bertolotti said from his Branford, Florida, home. "Her personality was always outward. Everybody loved her - people that made movies with her, people on a cruise - they all loved her. She was just a regular gal."

He said he hadn't heard much about the circumstances of Murphy's death. Bertolotti divorced her mother when Murphy was young and hadn't seen Murphy in the past few years. He said he used to be in the mob and served prison time on federal drug charges. "She was just talented," Bertolotti said. "And I loved her very much."

Film career

The petite, dark-eyed actress reportedly was fired from her last project, The Caller, after reports said she was problematic on set.

Her publicist said the split resulted from creative differences.

When Murphy and her husband of two years, British screenwriter Simon Monjack, returned to Los Angeles, he lost consciousness on the plane and was rushed to hospital.

Murphy was last in theaters with the low-budget thriller "Across the Hall," which opened in one theater each in New York and Los Angeles two weeks ago. She recently finished work on the Sylvester Stallone action film "The Expendables."

Born in Atlanta and raised in New Jersey, Murphy starred in  8 Mile and Don't Say a Word, but became a household name among teens and young adults in 1995 as the sidekick Tai in Clueless.

She was an accomplished singer, featuring on DJ Paul Oakenfold’s dance club hit Faster Kill Pussycat in 2006, which went on to hit number one on Billboard’s dance chart.

Murphy won a Young Hollywood Award for Standout Performance by an Actor in 2002 and the 2005 Annie Award for Voice Acting in an Animated Television Production for portraying Luanne Platter in King of the Hill.

Her last big movie was Sin City.

Celebrities pay tribute

Actor Ashton Kutcher, who starred with Murphy in the 2003 film Just Married, spoke about the actress’s death on micro-blogging platform Twitter.

"[Today] the world lost a little piece of sunshine," he wrote just after 7am [AEDT].

"My deepest condolences go out 2 Brittany’s family, her husband, & her amazing mother Sharon."

Lindsay Lohan and Jessica Simpson also expressed their sadness on Twitter.

‘‘My deepest condonlences go out to all of Brittany Murphy’s loved ones& may she rest in peace....She was a great talent w/a beautiful soul,’’ Lohan said.

Simpson called Murphy an ‘‘incredible ray of Light to so many people’’.

‘‘Her smile was contagious,’’ she said. My prayers are with her family and loved ones.’’

Murphy's co-star from Clueless, Alicia Silverstone, said she had always felt connected to the actress even though they had not stayed in close touch.

"I feel love in my heart for her - and hope she is at peace. This is truly sad," Silverstone told People magazine.

"I loved working with Brittany. She was so talented, so warm and so sweet."

Murphy was engaged twice before marrying British director and screenwriter Simon Monjack in a small Jewish ceremony in 2007.

She credited much of her success to her mother Sharon, who was diagnosed with breast cancer when Murphy was 15.

"When I asked my mom to move to California, she sold everything and moved out here for me," Murphy said. "I was really grateful to have grown up in an environment that was conducive to creating and didn't stifle any of that. She always believed in me."

Murphy was subject to some speculation she had an eating disorder or was abusing drugs, after slimming down dramatically following her role as high school geek Tai in Clueless.

She emphatically denied drug use and plastic surgery, saying her worst vice was caffeine.

"I have never tried [cocaine] in my entire life, I’ve never even seen it, and I don’t leave the house too much, except to go to work," Murphy said.

"My worst vice is caffeine. [The rumour is] really pretty darn far-fetched - it couldn’t be further from the truth.

"I have known people over the course of my life that have bad problems with drugs, and it’s something really serious."
