 Clayburgh died from chronic lymphocytic leukemia after a 21 year long fight with the disease.


Who was Jill Clayburgh : Jill Clayburgh was a two time Academy Award winning actress who is most notable for starring in leading roles with powerful female leads. The daughter of a mother and father who were both involved in the entertainment industry, Clayburgh seemed destined for acting. 


Clayburgh's family was wealthy, and she was raised in Manhattan's upper east side. She attended high quality schools, and during college she decided she wanted to be an actress. In the 60's and 70's, Clayburgh received her start in Broadway productions. Her first film, Wedding Party, was shot in 1963 but wouldn't see a release until 1969. 


Clayburgh would receive notoriety for her role as Gene Wilder's love interest in the 1976 comedy, Silver Streak. After this role, Clayburgh then went on for her first Academy Award winning performance in the 1978 dramedy, An Unmarried Woman. She would win the Cannes Film Festival award for Best Actress. She would follow this performance, with another Academy Award nomination effort in the 1979 comedy, Starting Over. 


After her two Academy Award nominations, Clayburgh went on with a healthy career. In 1979 she married her husband, David Rabe, who she was with until her death. Her most recent role which she was well known for was Letitia Darling on the ABC series, Dirty Sexy Money. In 2010 she also completed her last film, Love and Other Drugs. 


Clayburgh is survived by her husband, son, and daughter.
